I'm delighted that our postponed annual meeting on Women in Open Source will take place on the evening of Thursday 17 September. As always we welcome all OSHUG members to participate. Held jointly with BCS Women, we have four speakers, each of whom is a leader in their field.
Irina Bolychevsky founder of Redecentralize.org will look at the importance of open standards in addressing Big Tech monoply power; Dr Louise Brown, Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, will look at Modelling and simulating textiles with TexGen; Dawn Foster of the Governing Board of the Linux Foundation's CHAOSS project, will look at collaboration on the Kernel mailing lists; and Dr Becky Faith, Research Fellow and Leader of the Digital and Technology cluster at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, will look at creating a more gender-inclusive open source community.

Dates for your diary: AGM & Lightning Talks - -------------------------------------------
Our AGM and annual lightning talks evening will be on Thursday 15th October. This is an opportunity for you to speak for 10 minutes on an open source topic or project dear to your heart. Past talks have included open source sous vide cooking and an open source waterjet engine. Please just email a title and brief abstract to jeremy.bennett@embecosm.com
I particularly encourage OSHUG members to present their work at this event - nothing like some open source hardware to excite people.
Best wishes,
Jeremy Bennett BCS Open Source Specialist Group chair
