Hi Andrew,

I had a quick search and agree that 5A is about the maximum specified rating.

It will probably be a result of contact area - especially the outer contact that wipes the barrel, contact material and flammability rating of any plastic parts.

I guess these were designed for low power and low manufacturing cost - and anything that uses 12V at >5A is barely considered low power these days.

Hello,

I'm having difficulty sourcing barrel connector sockets rated at >5A,
which is bizarre as numerous reputable suppliers sell 12V/10A desktop
PSUs that terminate in a 5.5mm OD / 2.5mm ID barrel plug. Yet, no
matter how much searching I do I can only seem to turn up 2.5A rated
sockets and, at a push, 5A rated.

Grateful for any suggestions or insights anyone can offer here...

Cheers,

Andrew
